DPM Barcode Reader for Track and Trace Application

DPM Barcode Reader for Track and Trace Application

Direct part marks (DPM) are typically 2D Data Matrix symbols or QR codes that permanently marked by such methods as laser etching, chemical etching, dot peening and inkjet printing onto substrates including silicon, metal, plastic, or glass. NUMA BD-9500DP and FX-50 DPM barcode reader are specifically designed for DPM codes reading in various industries which are ideal for track and trace application.

Direct Part Mark (DPM) Codes Reading

Direct Part Marking (DPM) is a process that allows users to etch or imprint a bar code directly on an item or surface in a permanent manner instead of printing the code on a paper label that is adhered or attached to a surface such as anodized aluminum, stainless steel or chrome plated surfaces etc. There are four methods for direct part marking: laser etching, chemical etching, dot peening and inkjet printing. DPM codes are used for track and trace or quality control purposes in a variety of industries, particularly electronics manufacturing, automotive, aerospace and medical devices.

The benefits from using DPM codes

  • DPM codes are permanent and cannot be easily removed, obscured, or damaged.
  • DPM codes are also a popular option for parts with textured surfaces (label will not stick) and very small parts (hard to label items).
  • DPM codes last as long as the part itself, the piece can be identified easily throughout its entire lifecycle, also known as "cradle-to-grave" traceability
  • Parts and components can be encoded with a wide range of essential information including serial number, lot code and configuration information.
  • DPM allows the marking of very small codes in limited spaces where a standard label cannot be applied in a reliable and stable mode

Low-contrast, variability, curved surfaces, reflective surfaces, imperfect surfaces and codes on small objects are the challenges of DPM code reading. NUMA BD-9500DP and FX-50 DPM barcode reader are specifically designed for DPM codes reading in various industries. Here are the features for both models.

Programmable the DPM barcode reader to satisfy what you need

NUMA 2D reader can be programmed without difficulty or effort. It comes with a complete configuration code to fit all the different requirements accordingly. Users can simply scan the barcodes provided and configure the scanner as needed.

Connect to different interfaces

No matter user’s system requires USB-KB, USB-COM, RS-232 and HID-USB interface, NUMA wired barcode scanner only needs to change cable and configure to the right interface if they want to change the interface. USB-COM is also available if the system does not have enough serial port. Users can install driver to use USB simulate serial data transmission.

More DPM Applications

The DPM barcode scanner can capture DPM codes regardless of size, surface, contrast or density which including the most challenging mark, dot peen, as well as laser etch, ink mark, chemical etch, inkjet mold, cast and thermal spray. It is a great tool and ideal solution for the following applications and where assets are critical:

  • Electronics manufacturing
  • Electronic equipment
  • Medical equipment and devices
  • Healthcare markets
  • Telecommunications
  • Automotive
  • Aerospace
