Direct Part Marking (DPM)
Direct Part Marking (DPM) is a process that allows users to imprint a bar code directly on an item or surface in a permanent manner instead of printing the code on a paper label that is adhered or attached to a surface such as anodized aluminum, stainless steel or chrome plated surfaces etc. There are four methods for direct part marking: laser etching, chemical etching, dot peening and inkjet printing. DPM codes are used for track and trace or quality control purposes in a variety of industries, particularly electronics manufacturing and automotive.
